I do Muay Thai Training Diary: a Year

Welcome back to my online diary documenting my experience very amateur training in Muay Thai. If you missed the first entry on the bloody elbow, read it here.

One year ago, I started down the path of personal growth is exciting-I started training in Muay Thai. Now, with the years, I think it is a good chance to step back, share some of my experiences, and hope for the coming year.

First, and I can’t stress this enough, if You ever consider exploring any martial arts training, do it. The training helped me feel much better, both physically and mentally, and he has added so much to my appreciation of MMA and kickboxing. There is something about trying these techniques know themselves that really helps You see the details in every battle. Actually, diving and try it out.

As for that additional awards for MMA, Muay Thai training must have opened my eyes to many MMA striking. This has helped me to see that good as bad. And there are many examples of both. But one thing that sticks out MMA striking road is not always keep up with advances in other disciplines. Think of wrestling, where fighters such as Georges St. Pierre has shown how to take the best wrestling offered, adapting it to MMA, and used it to great success. You do not see that much with Muay Thai, and it is a shame. I would like to see more fighters utilize Muay Thai elbows and knees, or actually doing leg kicks.

Now, counter argument here is clear-in Muay Thai, the fighters don’t have to worry about being taken (well, and have brought the struggle continues-contrary to some beliefs, refutations of throws are part of Muay Thai, it’s just that the war is not kept on the mat). And that’s true. But You can also say that in wrestling, a wrestler does not have to worry about being punched, or in a grappling match, there is no fear of the ground and pound. Both disciplines have adapted to the MMA, with changes made to protect against this new element. Muay Thai and other striking art making progress in this area, but there is no past, despite Lyoto Machida pointed out that certain striking style can have great success in MMA. We’ll see what the future of the for Muay Thai striking arts and other specialized in our sport.
